Direct Support Fires Technology

An effective and efficient way to deliver effects on the battlefield

Direct Support Fires Technology (DSFT) is a scalable, cost-effective rocket capability engineered for high-volume effects delivery. Designed to increase the range, capacity, and maneuverability of Tactical Fires Formations, DSFT enables the rapid massing of fires with greater rocket throughput. Whether delivering smoke, illumination, fragmentation, terrain shaping, or area effects, DSFT amplifies battlefield dominance by increasing the number of rockets fired in less time.

“The unique thing about rockets and this type of approach is it allows the ability to rapidly converge, or saturate, a lot of firepower to one place. We will use a pod of 30 rockets that would launch one or two per second from a currently fielded launcher. That launcher converges 30 rockets onto one point or one area of the battlefield in a way that increases the ability to saturate the area.”

Expanded massed fires capabilities with extended range and greater rocket volume

  • Delivers up to 30 rockets per MFOM pod, significantly increasing magazine depth
  • Matches current artillery effects while enhancing rate of fire, range, and volume
  • Enables high-rate production of an affordable, scalable rocket capability for the Warfighter
  • Extends current Tactical Fires capabilities while maintaining desired artillery accuracy and mass

Long Range Maneuverable Fires

LRMF is a next-generation missile system under development to deliver precision effects at extended ranges. Designed to launch from existing platforms such as HIMARS and MLRS, LRMF expands the reach and flexibility of long-range precision fires. LRMF is being developed to provide significantly greater range than current capabilities while maintaining compatibility with existing force structure.

Incorporating advanced propulsion and maneuverability, LRMF is being engineered to engage high-value targets in complex and contested environments. With its extended reach and responsive flight profile, LRMF supports the Army’s modernization goals and enhances deep fires capability across the battlespace.

PROGRAM REVOLUTIONIZES ARTILLERY WITH LOW COST MASS PRODUCIBLE ROCKETS

"What we’ve seen among users around the world is that they don’t shoot many rockets at their max range and want to have more rockets engage targets at shorter ranges” shared Hunter Blackwell, Fire Support Capability Area Lead. “The Army has been developing the Precision Strike Missile, or PrSM, which is two rockets in a pod, and the replacement for the Army’s Tactical Missile System, or ATACMS, the one rocket in a pod system. DSFT is a concept that will answer those desires from the user community: to not only deliver more rockets to the battlefield but fired faster and easier for the Soldier’s to reload."
